This weekend, I attended my very first group fitness class postpartum — and honestly, it was just what I needed. The Mommy + Me + Stretch + Strength workshop at The Pearl’s City Island Studio was my first time back in any sort of group workout setting since getting pregnant. I had a really rough pregnancy, so I haven’t had a chance to do much movement beyond light walks. When I saw this class posted, I was so excited — I’ve been wanting to check out The Pearl ever since we moved to the Bronx about a year ago!
The space was warm, welcoming, and filled with supportive moms who instantly made me feel comfortable. Babies cried, cooed, and kicked their little feet — and for once, no one was stressed or embarrassed. It was such a relief to be in a room where that’s just part of the experience.
We brought our baby carrier and did a mix of stretches and strength exercises with baby both on mom and on the mat. Everything we needed — mats, equipment, and even a sweet mommy-and-me goodie bag — was provided. Instructor Justine led the class (her baby attached) with so much patience and positivity, helping us find ways to safely move and reconnect with our bodies while bonding with our babies.
I left feeling stronger, calmer, and more connected — both to my baby and to this amazing community of Bronx moms. I’m already looking forward to trying more classes at The Pearl, both with and without my little one! 💕
