Did you know that the New York Botanical Garden right here in the Bronx hosts a farmers market every Wednesday? It’s the perfect midweek outing for Bronx families looking to get outside, pick up some fresh local goods, and enjoy the gardens. The last day for the 2025 season is October 22, so there’s still time to check it out before it wraps up for the year!

Here’s a helpful tip — Wednesdays are free for Bronx residents (just bring proof of address!), but keep in mind that parking is not included, so plan accordingly.

We packed up the stroller and spent a few hours exploring the grounds after visiting the market. There were several vendors offering a great variety of items — from produce and flowers to baked goods and coffee. My first stop was, of course, a cup of coffee from Cano Coffee Company, a local favorite based out of Astoria. After that, we browsed through pumpkins, fresh veggies, and fruits, and even picked up a few things to take home. Prices were very reasonable, often comparable or even lower than local grocery stores — which was such a nice surprise!

Once we finished shopping, we took a walk around the beautiful property and admired the Van Gogh’s Flowers installations scattered throughout the garden. The displays are absolutely stunning in person and make for great photo ops (especially if your little one loves bright colors!).

If you’re planning a visit, note that the conservatory and special exhibits require separate tickets, but there’s plenty to enjoy for free. From wide-open paths perfect for stroller walks to fields of flowers and shaded spots to relax, it’s a refreshing way to spend a few hours outdoors with your family.

The baby got to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air while mommy got to see some gorgeous blooms — a win-win. 🌸
